What we collect via Google Analytics 4

When you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to collect the following categories of data:

  • Approximate location — country and region derived from your IP address. Your full IP address is not stored; GA4 anonymises IPs by default before any data is recorded.
  • Device class — whether you are on a desktop, tablet, or mobile device.
  • Page paths and titles — which pages you visit on syn.
  • Referrers — the website or search engine that brought you to syn.
  • Session and event timestamps — when pages were viewed.
  • Session identifier — a first-party cookie (_ga) that distinguishes visits without identifying you personally.

No advertising data, cross-site tracking, or Google Signals features are enabled on this property.

Legal basis

Processing is based on your explicit consent given via the cookie banner on your first visit (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). The GA script loads on every visit using Google’s Consent Mode v2 with all four signals (ad_storage, analytics_storage, ad_user_data, and ad_personalization) denied by default — no cookies are set and no data is collected until you click “Accept analytics cookies”. You may withdraw your consent at any time — see the section below.

Data processor

The analytics data processor is Google LLC. Data may be transferred to Google servers in the United States and other countries. Google's processing of this data is governed by the Google Ads Data Processing Terms and the Google Privacy Policy.

Retention period

Analytics data is retained for 2 months (the GA4 default) before being automatically deleted from Google's systems. This window is configured in the GA4 property settings and may be changed by the site administrator.

How to withdraw consent

You can revoke your analytics consent at any time by clicking the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of any page. This re-opens the consent banner so you can choose “Reject”. When you do so, the GA script is unmounted immediately and the GA cookies (_ga, _gid, and _ga_<id>) are removed within the same browser session.

No tracking before consent

No GA cookie is set and no analytics data is collected until you explicitly click “Accept analytics cookies”. The GA script loads on every visit in a cookieless mode (Google Consent Mode v2) so that Google can detect the tag, but it does not record your visit or set any cookies until you accept. If you navigate away without choosing, your visit is not tracked. The banner will reappear on your next visit until you make a choice.
